Surgeons around the world face the challenge of consistently providing good-quality results in diagnosis and patient care in the mid of the pandemic and the ever-changing nature of disease presentations. This volatile nature of the speciality requires persistent evaluation and discussions on a wide forum. I am greatly delighted that I myself am a part of ASI Kerala Chapter which continues to strive towards excellence.

ASI had to find its way through a lot of challenges in the new scenario, and we fought it all along by keeping the CMEs online and encouraging both the students and faculties in taking part in online group discussions, zonal quizzes and examinations. Continued surgical education and updating have been given utmost importance by ASI, and we have accommodated various aspects of cutting-edge technology in our CMEs.

Integration with various allied subjects of medicine is a crucial aspect in surgical education as well as patient care, and hence, I believe such integrated discussions that we have been trying to include in our CMEs would be fruitful in setting up better treatment guidelines and protocols pertaining to the Kerala ASI Chapter, in the years to come. The support and constant efforts of Dr Santhosh John Abraham in enlightening and inspiring our young surgeons in the above matters have been an invaluable asset to all of us.

I am deeply indebted to my seniors and colleagues in inspiring and guiding this team in bringing up the new surgical journal which would proudly showcase our expertise in the surgical field. Prof Y. M. Fazil Marickar and the whole editorial team have taken up a voluminous task of compiling our Journal whose perseverance in the above aspect is really commendable.

I also extend a warm welcome to Prof Binni John, whom I undoubtedly believe would take up this association forward to greater heights. I hope we can extend our endeavours in the coming years and thus be at par with the international journals and publications.

With Hope and Gratitude.
