 About the Society

Association of Surgeons of India was established in 1938 with the primary objective to encourage and advance the study and practice of the science and art of surgery and to promote social and academic interaction among the surgeons of India and abroad. The Association encourages scientific research, publications and conducting conferences and continuing medical education programs. It maintains a website and publishes journals, books, newsletters and public education materials. Postgraduate training is also given in different zones of the country for the sake of uniformity in medical education in Surgery for the postgraduate students.

As the Association grew larger, state chapters were created. The Kerala Chapter of the Association was formed in 1977. The chapter has been conducting three conferences regularly every year, the annual conference, the annual CME program and a peripheral meet to take the members to peripheral areas of Kerala to encourage the peripheral surgeons to interact with the other Association members and give a fillip to the peripheral centres to project their work.

  About the Journal

As part of emanation of scientific knowledge and Association activities, the Chapter started publishing newsletters, and in 1994, the Kerala Surgical Journal was born as a biannual publication. The journal gave an opportunity for the postgraduate students to publish their thesis work. Even today, the main content of the journal is contributed by the budding surgeons who are doing original work. Now time has come for getting the journal indexed. The journal itself has grown in stature, and the authors require indexation of their publications in order to be recognised for establishing their academic credentials and forgetting promotion to the senior posts of Associate Professor and Professor as designed by the Medical Council of India.
